The present Standard specifies requirements in terms of the performance and design of ventilation systems for individual or collective dwellings. Various ventilation strategies are considered, ranging from ventilation by opening windows to double-stream mechanical systems. Installations must meet requirements relating to human hygiene, comfort and well-being. The Standard deals with hygiene ventilation (maintenance of air quality) and maintenance ventilation (avoidance of damage caused by condensation), but does not specifically cover considerations of thermal comfort in Summer (comfort ventilation). This Standard does not apply to the ventilation of garages, common areas, roof spaces, basements and other spaces peripheral to inhabited areas. It does not deal with interactions between heating and ventilation and does not apply to dwellings in which heating and ventilation are provided by a single system.
